How Talisman compresses PDFs
Most of a PDF's size is usually images. Talisman downsamples photos that are stored at a higher resolution than the page needs and re-encodes them as JPEG, recompresses every other stream with maximum-effort deflate, merges duplicate objects, drops unused ones, and packs the result into compact object streams. Text and vector graphics are kept as they are, so they stay sharp and searchable.
Light keeps images near print quality, Recommended suits screens and email, and Strong gives the smallest file for sharing on a phone. If a file is already well optimised, you get the original back rather than a bigger one.
Is it private?
Yes. Your PDF is processed with WebAssembly in a background worker on your own device and never uploaded. It keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
